17-Year-Old Tshepo Tshabalala Named as Student Fatally Stabbed While Heading Home

KwaMhlanga – A 17-year-old named Tshepo Tshabalala, a Grade 8 student at Senzangakhona Secondary School in Mandela Village, near KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga, tragically lost his life after being stabbed by a 15-year-old classmate.

Tshepo was allegedly attacked while walking home after school on Thursday, 14 August 2025.

Jasper Zwane, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Education Department, stated, “The MEC for Education, Ms. Lindi Masina, will visit Tshepo Tshabalala’s family on Sunday, 17 August 2025.”

He further added, “Masina’s visit aims to express her condolences to the bereaved family and the entire school community. May his soul rest in peace.”

Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police, confirmed that Tshepo sustained a stab wound to the chest, allegedly caused by the 15-year-old, who has now been apprehended.

It is reported that the suspect tried to escape the scene following the attack.

“The suspect was later found at his residence and taken into custody,” Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane stated.

“The weapon used in the incident was recovered from the suspect’s friend, who is also under interrogation.”

“A murder investigation is currently ongoing.”

Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane also mentioned that the 15-year-old accused is expected to appear in court after being assessed by a probation officer.
