500,000 Users Sign Up for Moscow Metro’s Biometric Payment System

Moscow – Around 500,000 users have registered for the growing biometric payment system for the Moscow Metro.

Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Transport and Industry in Moscow, announced on Friday, 15 August 2025, that this innovative payment solution is enabling over 170,000 public transport journeys each workday.

“And this number is consistently on the rise,” Liksutov noted.

“Biometric payments are gaining traction among residents of Moscow, and we plan to integrate this system at all metro turnstiles by the end of 2025.”

Initially, the service was available at just two or three turnstiles per station.

“In accordance with the Transport Strategy through 2030, which has been endorsed by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we are advancing biometric payment capabilities in urban transport,” Liksutov elaborated.

“After nearly four years of operation, this payment approach has proven to be a secure and dependable service that provides unmatched convenience.

“There’s no requirement for cards, phones, or paper tickets to navigate through the turnstiles, and the gates open instantly.”
