Corruption Case Against Former National Assembly Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula Delayed

Pretoria – The Gauteng Division of the High Court in Pretoria has adjourned the corruption case against former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

Mapisa-Nqakula, who previously held the position of Defence Minister, faces 12 charges related to corruption and money laundering.

It is alleged that she solicited and received bribes amounting to R4.5 million from a contractor while in office as Defence Minister.

Reports indicate that of this sum, the former minister allegedly accepted R2.1 million in cash from a service provider.

Mapisa-Nqakula vehemently denies these claims and maintains her innocence.

The prosecution has provided the remaining docket that details the specific allegations against Mapisa-Nqakula.

On Monday, 18 August 2026, the court postponed the proceedings to give the defense attorney time to consult with the accused regarding the docket presented by the state.

The case is set to resume on 21 November 2025.

Mapisa-Nqakula’s legal representative mentioned they might submit representations to the National Director of Public Prosecutions, depending on the outcomes of their discussions.

Her bail of R50,000 has been extended until the upcoming court date.
