JANNIK SINNER has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open final, creating uncertainty about his participation in the US Open.
The Wimbledon champion was set to face Carlos Alcaraz.

Nevertheless, the Italian player set down his racquet and withdrew from the match without completing even one set.
Alcaraz jumped to a 5-0 lead while Sinner struggled to maintain his balance.
After just 23 minutes, the No. 1 seed took a seat and announced his retirement, expressing feelings of near collapse.
Sinner informed trainers and an official: “I cannot move – I feel like I’m about to collapse.”
He expressed regret to fans as medical staff rushed to his side.
Sinner was heard stating: “I tried, but I can’t. I’m sorry for the fans.”
The 24-year-old appeared visibly distressed as he sat, and Alcaraz approached to offer his support.
Following the presentation of the runner-up trophy, Sinner remarked: “I’m truly sorry to let you all down. I haven’t felt well since yesterday.”
“I hoped to feel better overnight, but my condition deteriorated.”
“I wanted to deliver a strong performance, but I couldn’t continue. I sincerely apologize to all of you.”
“I realize many have work or commitments tomorrow, and I genuinely apologize.”
This withdrawal has raised concerns about his capacity to compete in the US Open.
Sinner is scheduled to team up with Czech star Kateřina Siniaková in the Mixed Doubles round of 16 against Alexander Zverev and Belinda Bencic tomorrow.
The men’s singles main draw of the US Open kicks off on Sunday.
Sinner congratulated Alcaraz on his victory, marking the 22-year-old’s eighth Masters title.
He added, “Congratulations to Carlos for another title. Undeniably, it is not how you wanted this to go, but your performance this season has been remarkable.”
“To you and your team, I wish all the best for the US Open and in the future.”
“To my team, thank you for your unwavering support and understanding during today’s difficulties.”
“I regret not being able to give it my all, but some circumstances are simply beyond our control.”

Alcaraz acknowledged that this wasn’t the way he wished to win and offered his own apologies.
In a commendable gesture, he labeled Sinner a “true champion” and expressed belief that he would “return even stronger.”
