Bay Coach Draws Confidence from Previous Season’s Victories Against the Chiefs
Co-coach Ronnie Gabriel of Richards Bay recognizes the difficulties that await them in their away match against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, while also seeking to draw inspiration from last season’s achievements.
In the previous season, the Natal Rich Boys triumphed over Chiefs in both their home and away matches, significantly contributing to their first-ever top-eight finish.
Unfortunately, their current season has begun poorly; they have suffered defeats in both of their initial league matches and are currently positioned in 15th place with no points to their name.
Their losses came against Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows, both played at their home venue. Furthermore, the KwaZulu-Natal squad experienced a severe 4-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarter-finals.
In contrast, the Glamour Boys have made a strong start, winning their first two games without allowing any goals.
Gabriel intends to channel the momentum from their past victories against Chiefs into the upcoming match. “We must reflect on our earlier performances against Chiefs, reignite those emotions, and trust in our ability to travel there and achieve success,” he stated.
“In our last encounter, we triumphed over Chiefs at home, so it’s critical to revisit our strategies and use that as motivation to showcase our ability to perform away from home and aim for a positive result.”
Despite recognizing the challenge ahead, Gabriel remains optimistic. “Playing against Chiefs away is always tough, and it’s a significant match, so we must prepare thoroughly,” he remarked.
