Five Cutting-Edge Strategies Air France Is Using to Enhance Your Travel Experience

Johannesburg – Every day, Air France carries up to 140,000 passengers worldwide.

To improve the travel experience, the airline is dedicated to innovation and a digital transformation strategy.

At every phase of the journey—from booking through to arrival—new solutions are being implemented to meet customer needs proactively.

Recently, Air France introduced five new innovations aimed at making each part of the journey smoother and more enjoyable for passengers:

A priority service for short connections at Paris-Charles de Gaulle

In August 2025, Air France-KLM and Groupe ADP announced a priority system tailored for customers with tight connection times at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport.

Despite optimized flight schedules designed to facilitate seamless transitions for passengers and their luggage, unexpected situations can sometimes shorten available connection time.

From now on, if the connection time dips below a specific threshold (e.g., 45 minutes for a transfer from Toulouse to New York-JFK, arriving at Terminal 2F and departing from Terminal 2E Hall K), a priority process will automatically activate for affected customers, without requiring any request on their part.

Specifically:

  • Upon arrival of their inbound flight at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport—or earlier—customers will receive an SMS and email informing them that, due to the limited time to reach their next flight’s boarding gate, they qualify for priority access at security and border control. This notification will soon expand to include alerts via the Air France mobile app and WhatsApp.
  • As customers approach security and border checks, their boarding passes will be scanned, triggering an automatic alert to Groupe ADP’s customer service staff to provide priority assistance.

The aim is to reduce processing time and ensure customers can make it to their boarding gate in time.

This initiative, named the “Short Connection Pass,” represents the first tangible outcome of the Connect France partnership between Air France-KLM and Groupe ADP announced in June 2025.

Simplified connections via WhatsApp notifications

Since February 2025, Air France has been offering step-by-step support through WhatsApp for specific connections at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol airports.

To access this feature, customers must opt-in for WhatsApp notifications at check-in.

After landing, customers receive a message containing a link to a personalized page with essential information, such as:

  • The boarding gate for their connecting flight
  • Estimated transfer time
  • Walking time
  • Steps to follow within the airport

Currently in the testing phase, nearly 2,000 connecting passengers benefit from this service each month.

Special assistance for passengers with reduced mobility using wheelchairs

Air France has long been committed to making travel accessible to everyone.

The airline provides specialized services for passengers with reduced mobility, including its signature SAPHIR program, which assists them throughout the trip planning and booking process.

In 2024, over 690,000 passengers with disabilities flew with Air France.

In preparation for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, a new initiative allows passengers using manual wheelchairs to keep their wheelchairs until boarding and retrieve them immediately after disembarking, enhancing their comfort and independence.

Plans are underway to extend this service to electric wheelchairs by the end of the year.

A specific tag will also allow customers to notify airline staff of the wheelchair’s lifting points for careful handling.

A new online document submission tool
Customers can now scan their passport or ID card using their smartphone camera instead of manually entering details during online check-in.

The system automatically retrieves and adds this information to the booking. Since its launch in March 2025, over 3 million documents have been processed.

Customers can also save these documents directly to their profile, removing the need for re-entry on subsequent trips.

This improvement saves valuable time and minimizes the likelihood of errors.

Real-time flight tracking on iOS

Since December 2024, iOS users have access to a new feature that displays all flight information directly on their iPhone lock screen or Apple Watch, starting four hours before departure.

Key details, such as boarding gate, departure time, and a countdown to arrival, are continuously displayed without the need to open or refresh the app.

Even without an internet connection on board, this information remains accessible until one hour after arrival.

Each day, between 70,000 and 90,000 passengers take advantage of this feature.
