Harry Maguire Talks About His Future at Man Utd as Contract Nears Expiry Amid Teammate Abuse Controversy – The Sun
HARRY MAGUIRE is eager to remain at Manchester United, stating that it would be “foolish to leave” upon the expiration of his contract next summer, provided he feels valued.
Manager Ruben Amorim extended the England defender’s contract until 2026 by activating a one-year option in his £190,000-per-week agreement last January.

Maguire, 32, nearly departed Old Trafford in 2023 after losing his captaincy under Erik ten Hag, with United accepting a £30 million offer from West Ham two years ago.
However, he garnered praise for his determination and commitment to maintain his place under Ten Hag, ultimately becoming a key asset in Amorim’s plan, prompting United to resist interest from five clubs this summer.
Having transferred for a record £80 million from Leicester City in 2019, Maguire has suggested aspirations for a future extending beyond the end of his contract next June.
He spoke at the Manchester United Foundation’s holiday camp at a local school in Stretford on Wednesday.
Maguire stated, “I’m confident that in the next few months, we’ll discuss our objectives and whether they are inclined to extend our agreement. The transfer window reopens in January. I have my own views regarding my future and ambitions.”
“I prefer to keep some details private, but this club is fantastic to represent, and it would be unwise to leave at this time.”
Maguire aims to emulate legends like Denis Irwin, Gary Pallister, Steve Bruce, and Bryan Robson, celebrated as core figures among the fanbase.

No discussions about an extension have occurred yet, but it is known that United wants to retain him despite interest from other clubs.
Maguire has been included in Amorim’s six-man leadership group but only participated in the last 20 minutes of United’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the season opener on Sunday.

Despite feeling “disappointed” with the match outcome, Maguire praised the positive atmosphere at Old Trafford, attributed to the club’s new signings.
The 64-time capped England international remarked, “There’s a wonderful vibe in the dressing room. Honestly, it felt rejuvenating to start a new chapter after last season.
“Last season was extremely tough, particularly during February and March when there was little to play for. It was challenging.
“Aside from the Europa League, which everyone focused on, losing in the Premier League added extra stress.”
“This season, we’re aiming for significantly more competition in the Premier League.”
“I’m sure the likes of David Beckham and Wayne Rooney endured abuse.”

As part of the leadership group, alongside Tom Heaton, Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot, and Noussair Mazraoui, Maguire is committed to helping captain Bruno Fernandes maintain discipline and elevate standards.
Maguire, who has faced online trolling for years, encourages his teammates to stay “mentally strong” and ignore social media negativity following last season’s disappointing 15th-place finish.
Reflecting on last season’s challenges, Maguire stated, “I’m sure they faced significant criticism. I hope the players learn not to seek validation from external sources regarding their performance.
“I wish they wouldn’t check comments after a mistake or poor game on Instagram.
“Much of the online jokes and memes stem from rival fans; I’ve remained mentally resilient despite it and want to share this insight with younger players, as they’ll encounter struggles regardless of this club’s prestige.
“I’m sure players like David Beckham and Wayne Rooney faced similar hurdles, even though they were world-class.”

Maguire’s resurgence at United has been termed remarkable, with club legend Rio Ferdinand recently likening it to a player who had “returned from the dead.”
Ferdinand indicated that he had discussed Maguire’s challenges at Old Trafford.
He remarked, “We tackled difficult questions regarding the nature of criticism. Someone who has virtually recovered from the brink, exemplifying resilience.”
“He faced significant adversity, yet he has made a comeback. It’s inspiring to delve deeper and converse with him about this.”
