Durban City Expresses Interest in Sundowns’ Mashego
Sources from Sportswire have revealed that Durban City is interested in signing the underrated left-back, Terrence Mashego, from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mashego’s future at Sundowns appears uncertain, a situation magnified by his recent selection for the Bafana Bafana squad in the ongoing African Nations Championship in East Africa.
During the last season, he only played 11 matches in all competitions, while Sundowns clinched their eighth consecutive league title.
The addition of Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC has further reduced Mashego’s chances of starting.
The competition for the left-back position at Sundowns is stiff, featuring Divine Lunga, Asekho Tiwani, and Aubrey Modiba, all competing for playing time. Lunga, Basadien, and Modiba have already had their chances this season, while the promising talent Tiwani is yet to make his debut.

With so many players competing for spots, a loan move to a newly promoted team like Durban City, managed by Gavin Hunt, could prove advantageous for Mashego.
According to Sportswire, discussions are underway among all parties, including Mashego’s agent, to finalize a deal before the transfer window closes.
The 27-year-old joined Sundowns from Cape Town City before the 2022/23 season. His current deal is set to expire at season’s end, and unless there is a change in circumstances, it appears he may not be retained.
Since joining, Mashego has played a role in securing three straight league titles and the African Football League, participating in 45 matches and scoring once.
