AIDS Healthcare Foundation Celebrates Milestone: 2.5 Million Lives Impacted

This achievement transcends numbers, symbolizing renewed hope, stronger families, and a bold vision for a healthier and fairer world.

AHF’s influence on the HIV response is profound, with nations like Malawi experiencing a remarkable rise in life expectancy from 46 to 67 years over the last 25 years.

Children once at risk of losing their parents to HIV can now thrive in their families, while communities prosper through enhanced access to quality healthcare.

This transformation can be seen across various countries, reflecting AHF’s unwavering commitment to changing lives and achieving global HIV control.

Founded in 1987 in Los Angeles as the AIDS Hospice Foundation, AHF has grown to be the largest HIV/AIDS service organization worldwide.

With a dedicated team of over 8,000, AHF delivers expert, compassionate, and non-judgmental care to all, regardless of their financial situation.

Through robust advocacy for policy reform, AHF ensures equitable access to HIV and public health services globally.

AHF President Michael Weinstein noted, “At the outset, I never imagined we would touch 2.5 million lives.

“This achievement, reflecting our team’s courage and our patients’ trust, is worth celebrating.

“As George Bernard Shaw once said, ‘You see things; and say, Why? But I dream of things that never were, and I say, Why not?’”

Weinstein further stated: “Our goal — to provide exceptional care to all — has materialized.

“We have remained committed to our principles, showing that hope can flourish even in difficult times. Yet, our journey continues.

“AHF is tirelessly tackling STIs, hunger, homelessness, and the global HIV epidemic. I am profoundly grateful to work alongside our extraordinary team.”

“When we started our initial global programs in South Africa and Uganda in 2002, assisting 100 clients in each country, we never envisioned expanding to 13 additional African countries and supporting 1.3 million lives across the continent,” shared Dr. Penninah Iutung, AHF’s Executive Vice President.

“Building on years of advocacy and creative solutions, AHF Africa now provides programs that extend beyond clinical care to include community-led prevention, strategies for equitable access, and pandemic preparedness.

“These achievements reflect essential partnerships with government and civil society that have enabled us to reach the most marginalized, promote equity, and ensure no one is left behind.”

Dr. Nombuso Madonsela, who leads AHF’s largest program as Country Program Director for South Africa, remarked, “It is a privilege to be part of this remarkable achievement.

“AHF South Africa is committed to advancing combination prevention, lowering new infection rates, and delivering quality services to everyone we serve.

“Through our Community Power Voices (CPV), we highlight the stories and successes of individuals living with HIV.
