Re-arrest of Muluvhu Gumani, Escapee from Robbery Charges, in Waterval
Polokwane – Authorities have arrested 34-year-old robbery suspect Muluvhu Gumani, who had previously escaped from custody while being transported to court.
Gumani broke free from a police vehicle at an intersection on Monday, August 25, 2025.

He was initially taken into custody for robbery involving a weapon other than a firearm.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed on Thursday, August 28, 2025, that the fugitive had been apprehended once more.
“The Thohoyandou police of the Vhembe District have successfully recaptured an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped police custody earlier this week,” Colonel Ledwaba stated.
According to the police spokesperson, Gumani was re-arrested on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in the Waterval area, where he had been hiding in a rental property.
Colonel Ledwaba noted that the police acted on a tip-off, which they diligently followed, leading to Gumani’s recapture.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 29, 2025.
In addition to his original robbery charge, Gumani now faces additional charges for escaping lawful custody.
