MK Party Launches Jobs March in Clairwood: Encouraging Factories and Truckers to Hire Locally
Durban – On Friday, 29 August 2025, members of the Unkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) organized a march through Clairwood, Ethekweni, KwaZulu-Natal, targeting factories and trucking companies suspected of employing undocumented foreign workers.
Numerous MK Party supporters participated in the march, which was led by members of the “Labour Desk,” party convener Mlungisi Mancinza, and spokesperson Mthobisi Shinga.
This week, the MK Party announced their plan to march to “remove illegal foreigners.”
However, many factories in Clairwood opted to shut down for the day.
Undeterred, supporters clad in party attire marched through the streets of Clairwood.
At SMI Trucking Transport, MK Party members sought to speak with the owner, who declined to meet them.
They eventually delivered a memorandum to a man named Derick Naidoo, who identified himself as a company representative.
The MK Party also collected numerous Curriculum Vitae (CV) from job-seeking members, claiming they could fill roles currently held by undocumented foreign workers in the area.
Job seeker Nothando Gwala stated: “It’s been five years of unemployment.”
“I possess a caregiver certificate, an HIV and Aids care certificate, a hygiene in cleaning services qualification, and a code 10 driver’s license.
“I hope the MK labour desk will accept my CV today, as many of our CVs end up in the trash when submitted to these companies.”
At Tankers Cleaning Services, police barred most MKP members from entering the facility.
However, a few representatives from the party’s labour desk were allowed inside to interact with company officials.
Meanwhile, at the Clairwood Market, MK Party representatives submitted a memorandum of grievances to local authorities.
The vegetable market reportedly employs undocumented immigrants rather than South African citizens.
Mlungisi noted that several businesses have reached out to the MK labour desk for CV submissions, with vacancies including positions for Lu Trans-16 (code 14 drivers), 45 workers for other trucking companies, and 50 workers in the textile industry.
MK Party convener Mancinza stated that some Clairwood companies had requested CVs for available job openings.
Mancinza provided a list of companies actively recruiting:
- Lu Trans – 16 workers with code 14 driver’s license,
- Other trucking companies – 45 workers with code 14 driver’s license,
- Textile industry – 50 workers.
- School wear – 45 workers
Earlier this month, Stats SA released the Quarterly Labour Force Survey, indicating that the country’s unemployment rate rose by 0.3 percentage points in the second quarter of this year.
Consequently, the jobless rate now stands at 33.2%, climbing from 32.9% in the first quarter.
