Thomas Tuchel Issues Apology for Dismissing Jude Bellingham’s Behavior as ‘Repulsive’ Following England Match
THOMAS TUCHEL has publicly apologized to Jude Bellingham following his remarks suggesting that the Real Madrid player’s actions could be regarded as ‘repulsive’, which sparked significant controversy.
The England manager acknowledged that Bellingham was understandably distressed by the backlash after a talkSPORT interview he conducted in June, shortly after England suffered a 3-1 home loss to Senegal.

Tuchel pointed out that his mother found Bellingham’s actions on the field ‘repulsive’, but he later explained that his word choice was unfortunate, clarifying that it was influenced by his English being a second language.
He remarked, “The headlines understandably hurt Jude, and I regret that. I chose the wrong word while speaking in my second language, which is my responsibility, and it understandably impacted the player.
“I hope this issue is resolved now. As soon as I became aware of the headlines, I reached out to him immediately, despite not having the chance to talk to him during the Club World Cup.
“I didn’t mean to use that word, and I want to make it clear that there was no hidden agenda or ulterior motive.
“I take full responsibility for the headlines that were created, and I genuinely apologize for the distress they caused.
“I’ve expressed my regret both then and now regarding the distress and the headlines. I should have been more careful and managed it better.
“Anyone who listens to my complete response would understand my respect and admiration for the player.”

“I gave the interview the morning after a defeat and hadn’t slept much the night before. I did it live and chose the wrong word, leading to unintentional upset.
“Jude knows and has always known how much I value him and appreciate his talents.”

Bellingham is currently recovering from shoulder surgery, which has kept him out of the squad announced by Tuchel for the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra at Villa Park next Saturday and Serbia in Belgrade the following Tuesday.
Furthermore, his Real Madrid teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold has been omitted from Tuchel’s selection, while debut call-ups have been given to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and Tottenham full-back Djed Spence.
