Rights Group Demands Arrest of Pretoria Teacher Accused of Raping 14-Year-Old Student
Pretoria – The rights organization NotInMyName International (NIMN) is calling for the arrest of a male teacher accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old schoolgirl at a specialized educational institution in Pretoria for visually impaired and partially sighted students.
NIMN expressed its “profound outrage and disgust” upon hearing about the alleged sexual assault at Prinshof School in Pretoria.
“We urge the SAPS and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to act quickly and thoroughly to ensure the alleged offender is apprehended and faces the full force of the law,” NIMN stated on Sunday, 31 August 2025.
“There must be no special treatment or delays in seeking justice.”
NIMN identified the alleged perpetrator as “a white male teacher” employed by the institution.
“This shocking crime was revealed only after the victim’s father, alarmed by a sudden decline in her academic performance, sought answers from school authorities,” NIMN noted.
“It was then that the upset child disclosed to her father that she was feeling unhappy and unsafe at the school due to the alleged assault by the teacher.”
“We hold the school administration accountable for their apparent failure to protect this child and create a safe environment where students can flourish without fear.”
NIMN remarked that the discovery made by an alert parent, rather than through the school’s own safeguarding protocols, is a “damning indictment” of its leadership.
“We acknowledge that we are aware of the identities of both the minor victim and the accused,” NIMN asserted.
“We are pleased to hear that a criminal case has been initiated at a Pretoria South African Police Service (SAPS) station and we will closely monitor its progress.”
NIMN outlined its demands as follows:
- Immediate Arrest and Prosecution: We urge the SAPS and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to promptly ensure the arrest of the alleged perpetrator and to pursue full legal action without delays or special treatment in the pursuit of justice.
- Immediate Dismissal of the Perpetrator: We demand that the School Governing Body (SGB) and the Department of Basic Education suspend and ultimately terminate the employment of the accused teacher while the investigation is ongoing. He should not be allowed near any other children.
- Full Cooperation from the School: We call on the principal and management of Prinshof School to provide their full and unconditional cooperation to law enforcement agencies. Any attempt to obscure, delay, or protect the perpetrator will be seen as complicity.
- Psychosocial Support for the Victim: We insist that the Department of Basic Education and the school deliver immediate and ongoing professional psychosocial support for the victim and her family to aid their recovery from this traumatic incident.
NIMN stands in solidarity with the victim and her family, and as part of our ongoing commitment to eliminating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) from our society, its representatives will lead a peaceful demonstration at Prinshof School on Monday, 1 September 2025.
“We send a clear message: the abuse of power and the violation of our children in the places they should feel safest will not be tolerated,” declared NIMN, emphasizing that it will not remain passive while predators in positions of authority exploit the vulnerable.
“We demand justice, and we will not rest until it is achieved.”
