Bail Approved for ‘Mute’ Constable Who Observed Chesnay Kepler Murder Case

Johannesburg – Constable Llewelyn Meyers, who was taken into custody for allegedly witnessing the deadly shooting of Crime Warden Chesnay Kepler and failing to report it, has been granted bail.

Constable Meyers, who was arrested last week, appeared in court alongside his co-defendant, Sergeant Buthelezi.

In addition to his failure to report the incident, Constable Meyers is facing charges of attempted murder and assault.

Sergeant Buthelezi, also released on bail, is accused of having fatally shot his girlfriend, Kepler, last December.

Sergeant Buthelezi is charged with murder.

Both officers are assigned to the Eldorado Police Station.

Their case has been rescheduled for 11 September 2025 for a pre-trial hearing at the Johannesburg High Court.
