Exciting Action Awaits as the DStv Diski Challenge Launches This Weekend!
The DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) 2025/26 season is ready to commence this weekend, featuring all teams across various venues.
The PSL Reserve League, established in 2014 by MultiChoice to foster youth football in South Africa, is now entering its 11th season.
Last season, Kaizer Chiefs remarkably accumulated 70 points, claiming their first DDC title since the league began.
To date, only two teams, Golden Arrows and Stellenbosch, have won the title twice. Arrows celebrated victories in the 2015/16 and 2017/18 seasons, while Stellies claimed their titles in 2021/22 and 2023/24.
The opening match of the season is shaping up to be thrilling, featuring a KZN Derby as Golden Arrows goes head-to-head with Richards Bay at Mpumalanga Stadium, followed by Orlando Pirates taking on Durban City at the same venue.
Upcoming matches include a Limpopo Derby where Magesi will confront Sekhukhune United at Seshego Stadium, and TS Galaxy will take on Marumo Gallants at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.
On Sunday, AmaZulu will compete against last season’s runners-up Stellenbosch at Mpumalanga Stadium, while the defending champions, Chiefs, will clash with Orbit College at the same venue.
Additionally, Polokwane City will welcome Chippa United at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, and Mamelodi Sundowns will face Siwelele at Tuks Stadium.
The DStv Diski Challenge has emerged as a vital platform for nurturing talent in South Africa, with many players advancing to international careers.
Notable alumni include Keagan Dolly and Percy Tau, who have played in Ligue 1 and the Premier League, along with current stars like Siyabonga Ngezana, Lyle Foster, and Mohau Nkota, who have secured contracts in Romania, the Premier League, and the Saudi Pro League, respectively.
The league’s strength was showcased last season when Amajita, the South African U20 national team, won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), primarily due to contributions from DDC players.
Tylon Smith was named Player of the Tournament at AFCON and subsequently signed by English club Queens Park Rangers, participating in the EFL Championship.
Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who played for Orlando Pirates in the DDC during the league’s 10-year anniversary, is now part of Bafana Bafana and captain of Pirates in Nkosinathi Sibisi’s absence.
