The 35-year-old revealed his intent to step away from the sport following his stint with Blackpool.
As reported by the BBC, the former Scotland international was swiftly appointed by Blackburn Rovers to a distinct new position.

During his early days at Portman Road, he undertook loan spells at Oxford United, Rochdale, and Brentford.
He later transferred to Huddersfield and Blackburn before moving to Middlesbrough in 2016, where he made six Premier League appearances.
