In their last tournament outing, Newcastle placed last in a challenging group featuring PSG, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan.
This season, the Champions League introduces a new group stage format, and Newcastle is poised to navigate this updated structure for the first time.
Eddie Howe’s team faces a tough opening match against the Spanish champions Barcelona, but the manager has received a significant boost ahead of tonight’s clash.

Why is Anthony Gordon not suspended for Newcastle vs Barcelona?

The England winger was handed a three-match ban, missing matches against Leeds and Wolves.
While Gordon is still under a domestic suspension for one more match, this sanction does not extend to Champions League fixtures, allowing him to feature against Barcelona this evening.
He will complete his suspension this Sunday when Newcastle faces Bournemouth in the Premier League.
The former Everton player will be eligible for domestic matches again on Wednesday, September 24, when Newcastle hosts Bradford in the Carabao Cup’s third round.
