Durban: Two Lives Lost in Saturday Afternoon M4 Single-Car Accident

Durban – Two people have tragically lost their lives in a single-vehicle crash on the M4 South Bound near Walter Gilbert Road.

ALS Paramedics are on-site at the accident location, which occurred in the afternoon on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

According to spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics responded to emergency calls around 3 pm.

“When they arrived, paramedics faced a scene of chaos and devastation,”

“They found that a single vehicle with five occupants had lost control and collided with a tree in the central median,” Jamieson explained.

The driver and front-seat passenger were trapped in the wreckage, leading the Ethekweni Fire Department to use the Jaws of Life for their rescue.

“The two men, presumed to be in their 20s, suffered severe injuries, and sadly, paramedics could not save them. They were pronounced dead at the scene,” Jamieson stated.

Three other passengers, all male and in their 20s, sustained serious injuries.

Advanced Life Support paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilize them on scene before transferring them to nearby hospitals for urgent care.

“One patient had critical injuries and required intubation at the scene,” Jamieson added.

Officers from the South African Police Service and Metro Police were also present at the scene.
