United is unlikely to sign two (or three) midfielders similar to Casemiro. Instead, they are targeting younger players in their early to mid-20s with Premier League experience.
Prospective players like Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali, Alex Scott, and others have all impressed against United. Notably, Tonali’s crowning achievement was winning the Serie A title with AC Milan four years back.
Chances are that Mainoo’s upcoming midfield teammates will be older than him, but he will undoubtedly serve as a senior figure in midfield. He began training with United’s first team at just 17.
United is open to securing a third midfield signing if they can offload Ugarte. The partnership between Mainoo and Ugarte has proven ineffective, with United winning only two of the 15 matches they’ve played together.
