Woman’s Charred Remains Found Next to Burning Truck; Husband Arrested

Polokwane – Samuel Molefe, the individual facing murder charges after authorities uncovered the charred body of his wife, bound with a wire alongside a burning bakkie, has been held in custody.

The 41-year-old defendant appeared in the Northam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, in connection with a murder that occurred in Northam, located in the Waterberg District of Limpopo.

As stated by police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the court appearance follows the grim discovery made in the early hours of Sunday, 3 May 2026, along Sefikile Gravel Road next to MBT Garage.

“Police responded to reports of a vehicle ablaze around 03:45,” Colonel Ledwaba reported.

“Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle completely engulfed in flames along with the body of a woman in close proximity.

“The deceased, aged 37, was found with a wire tied around her waist and exhibited severe burn injuries.

“The body was burned beyond recognition.”

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba indicated that Molefe, who is suspected to be the husband of the victim, was arrested later that same day.

“While the motive for this incident is still under investigation, it’s important to note that domestic violence-related factors cannot be ruled out,” the spokesperson commented.

The accused will remain in custody until 12 May 2026 for further police inquiries.

Limpopo’s Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the incident and urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

“We continue to appeal to communities to avoid violent actions, especially in domestic disputes,” Lieutenant General Hadebe stated.

“Taking the law into your own hands and resorting to murder is not a feasible solution.

“We encourage individuals facing difficulties in their relationships to seek assistance from proper support services and law enforcement agencies.”

Ongoing investigations by the police are currently underway.
