Carrying forward her father Ravi Shankar’s legacy, the acclaimed sitar maestro and composer continues to explore new realms within Indian classical music. Chapters, a collective project with BBC Proms, De Singel, and CCOHK, draws inspiration from Anoushka’s album trilogy – “Forever, For Now,” “How Dark It Is Before Dawn,” and “We Return to Light,” portraying her artistic and personal evolution. The piece debuted at the BBC Proms in July 2025, offering a mesmerizing orchestral experience that highlights both sitar and orchestra.
Anaoushka Shankar, a seven-time Grammy nominee, is recognized as “a visionary artist redefining sitar music for the 21st century.” Following in her father’s footsteps, her compositions skillfully merge Indian classical sounds with Western orchestral elements. An honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music and awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Oxford, Shankar has collaborated with notable artists like Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones, Patti Smith, and Sting.
