Fairshake and AI PACs Commit $100 Million to Midterm Election Funding

In the 2026 primaries, Fairshake has committed $28 million as recent polling indicates growing doubts among Americans regarding crypto and AI, raising concerns about the political influence of funding from industry-affiliated super PACs.

Summary

  • Fairshake, in conjunction with pro-AI PAC Leading the Future, has together spent over $100 million in the 2026 midterm elections, according to federal filings and media reports.
  • A Public First poll commissioned by Politico in April revealed that 45% of Americans consider investing in crypto too risky, whereas 44% believe AI is progressing too quickly.
  • Only 3% of respondents recognized Fairshake by name, and analysts have suggested that voter pushback could arise once the industry’s funding links are exposed.

Fairshake, the pro-crypto super PAC backed by Coinbase, Andreessen Horowitz, and Ripple, has dedicated $28 million to competitive 2026 primaries. Together with Leading the Future, a pro-AI entity established in August 2025 that has raised over $75 million, both organizations have invested more than $100 million in the current midterm elections.

This financial activity unfolds in a challenging context. A Public First poll conducted for Politico, surveying 2,035 US adults in April, found that 45% view cryptocurrency investments as too high-risk, while 44% feel AI is advancing too rapidly, with approximately two-thirds of respondents advocating for strict regulations or comprehensive oversight of AI.

“If they see someone is connected to crypto, that will always raise red flags,” remarked former Ohio Representative Jim Renacci.

Despite the existing skepticism, public awareness of both Fairshake and Leading the Future remains quite low. Only 3% of participants were familiar with Fairshake, and just 9% had heard of Leading the Future.

Political analysts told Politico that backlash could happen swiftly once voters discern the sponsorship behind the campaign contributions.

The stakes for crypto legislation are substantial. According to crypto.news, should the Democrats gain control of either chamber in November, the chances of the CLARITY Act passing are nearly nonexistent, with Senator Elizabeth Warren anticipated to head the Senate Banking Committee.

Fairshake’s current war chest of $193 million is strategically aimed at preventing such outcomes. In 2024, a PAC linked to Fairshake allocated over $40 million to unseat Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, a lifelong critic of crypto, who is now running for reelection.
