Kolisi’s Emotional Comeback to Sharks Starting XV for Durban Send-Off
The Hollywoodbets Sharks have assembled a strong squad to challenge Benetton this Saturday, featuring Springbok legends Siya Kolisi and Ox Nche.
Emerging talent Zekhethelo Siyaya earns a surprising starting role at fly-half for this pivotal match in the 2026 season.
Head coach JP Pietersen has implemented several changes to the lineup since their previous game, some due to injuries, with André Esterhuizen leading a veteran team along with a fascinating fly-half choice.
Siya Kolisi, playing at flank, is among the seasoned players expected to provide both stability and creativity as the Sharks aim to finish the last two weeks of the tournament positively after a season filled with promise but ultimately disappointing results.
“This week has been tough for us after missing the playoffs. We’re really upset given the quality of our squad. We should have qualified, and we take full responsibility,” Kolisi stated.
“We are determined to finish the season on a high note. It’s disheartening for us. Our fans have given us incredible support, and we have not delivered for them or the club. We realize we could have performed better. This upcoming match is daunting as they have beaten some top teams this year — our goal is to wrap up these last two games well and lay a solid foundation for the future.”
Personally, the Springbok captain is preparing to bid farewell to the Sharks at the end of the tournament as he returns to Cape Town to be closer to his children, a decision that weighs heavily on his heart.
“It’s been tough. Saying goodbye to my teammates will be difficult. This environment has been amazing, and the community has warmly embraced my family and me,” he shared.
“My kids adore the team and the city of Durban, so I’m very grateful to everyone for their warm reception.
“I’m focused on maximizing these last two weeks. I am thankful to the Sharks for everything — their support, understanding the importance of family, and helping me remain close to my children.”
Kolisi is joined by fellow Springboks Ox Nché and Vincent Koch in the front row, while the promising Siyaya takes on the fly-half role after impressive recent performances. Jurenzo Julius partners with Esterhuizen in the midfield.
