R6 Million in Dagga Seized: Toyota Quantum Stopped in Mpumalanga, Two Arrested

Graskop – Following a tip-off, authorities in Mpumalanga intercepted a Quantum minibus taxi, uncovering an astonishing R6 million worth of packaged dagga along with two arrests.

The operation took place on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, just outside Mashishing (previously known as Lydenburg) when law enforcement deployed a patrol vehicle to track the suspects’ route.

Police spotted the Quantum, monitored it briefly, and then stopped it in Graskop.

Inside the minibus taxi, officers discovered a significant cache: around 1,025 kilograms of dagga, carefully hidden and ready for distribution.

Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe confirmed the arrest of two individuals aged 26 and 28.

“Charges of possession and dealing in dagga have been laid against the pair,” she said.

Acting Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised the officers involved in the operation, describing it as a major setback for the illegal drug trade in the province.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Graskop Magistrate’s Court shortly.
