Durban CBD Building Collapse Leaves One Trapped and Three Injured

Durban – A building undergoing renovations in the city’s central business district has collapsed, trapping several workers underneath.

As reported by ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the incident took place at a site on Union Lane just before 11:00 on Saturday, 9 May 2026.

“At this time, one individual is believed to be critically trapped,” Jamieson stated.

Additionally, three other individuals sustained injuries, with one requiring stabilization at the scene before being transferred to a hospital.

After about an hour and a half, eThekwini Emergency Services successfully rescued the worker trapped under the debris using heavy lifting equipment.

The individual was subsequently transported to the hospital.
