Leader of Anti-Immigrant Protests, Ngizwe Mchunu, Confronts Arson Attack on His Homestead

Durban – Unknown assailants have set fire to the uMbumbulu residence of former Ukhozi FM DJ Ngizwe Mchunu, who currently heads the anti-immigrant organization Amabhinca.

The self-styled cultural activist and social media influencer from KwaZulu-Natal was in Cape Town when his home was ignited on Sunday, 10 May 2026.

Witnesses reported that a group of unfamiliar individuals arrived at the property looking for Mchunu.

Neighbors informed them that Mchunu and his wife were not home at the time.

Shortly thereafter, flames engulfed Mchunu’s house, which sustained extensive damage from the fire.

Nkosi Phakel’umthakathi Ndabandaba, who participated in recent anti-immigrant protests alongside Mchunu, stated that no injuries were reported in the incident.

He noted that both the building and its contents were destroyed by the flames.

Ndabandaba suspects the attack was deliberate and hinted that it may be linked to the recent anti-immigrant demonstration led by Mchunu and others.

He claimed that leaders associated with anti-immigrant initiatives are currently being targeted.

Some demonstrations reportedly turned violent, with unverified reports of casualties.

Meanwhile, the South African government has urged restraint, asserting that the situation, which has attracted criticism from various African nations, including Nigeria and Ghana, remains under investigation.
