Wayne Rooney’s Brother Unveils Love Island Winner During FA Cup Victory, Leaving Ex-Man Utd Star’s Future Uncertain
LOVE ISLAND champion Tom Clare has been released by his football club, which is managed by Wayne Rooney’s brother.
Macclesfield, competing in the National League North, finished the season fourth overall.
As they gear up for a new season in the sixth tier of English football, the club has released its retained list ahead of the summer transfer window.
The list indicates that seven players will return for the upcoming season, while talks are ongoing for eight others, including ex-Manchester United player Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
Nine players have had their contracts terminated.
This group includes Clare, the winner of 2024 Love Island: All Stars.

At 26 years old, Clare joined the Silkmen in 2021 following the acquisition of the club by owner Rob Smethurst.
He became the team’s top scorer during the 2021/22 season with 23 goals, which earned him a two-year contract in 2022.
His commitments to television briefly took him away, but he returned in 2024 under Robbie Savage’s management.
John Rooney was appointed as manager in 2025 after both his retirement and Savage’s departure.

Love Island star Clare has only made a single appearance this season.
However, he was seen celebrating with his teammates after a surprising victory against Crystal Palace during the FA Cup third round last January.
The club stated: “Following the end of the 2025/26 Enterprise National League North season, Macclesfield FC can now reveal our retained list.
“We deeply thank all departing players for their commitment and efforts during their time at the Leasing.com Stadium and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”
