LUKE HUMPHRIES has expressed his appreciation for his fiancée’s support throughout his Premier League journey.

Cool Hand Luke is gearing up for his £350,000 title defense by indulging in some “relaxing” rounds of golf.

At 31, Cool Hand Luke celebrated a victory in Birmingham on Thursday, ensuring his appearance in the playoffs at the O2 Arena.

Just weeks ago, many questioned his chances of qualifying for the final four matchup.

“This is probably the proudest moment of my life because the previous two Premier Leagues felt relatively easy.

“After the 14th week, it feels like you’re playing for nothing. However, these last three weeks brought immense pressure to reach three finals and secure a win.

“This accomplishment is significant for me as it demonstrates my resilience and determination. I often feel underestimated as a player.

“I had my doubts about qualifying. When we were five points away from the top four, it seemed like a miracle was necessary.

“My girlfriend Kayley kept encouraging me, saying, ‘You’ve got this. You know you can do it.’

“Sometimes, I just need that little motivation from someone.

“Missing out on defending my title at the O2 would have been very upsetting for me, even if I wouldn’t admit it.”

Luke Littler is leading the Premier table for the third consecutive year and will compete against the fourth-ranked player – Humphries – in the semi-finals on May 28 in North Greenwich.

In the other semi-final, the second and third-placed players will clash, potentially leading to an all-Welsh showdown between Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price.

Humphries, the 2024 world darts champion, remarked: “Whether I’m third or fourth doesn’t matter.

“If I’m fourth, I’ll be up against Luke, and we both know how to defeat each other. It’ll be an exciting match, but everyone prefers to see that in the final.

“So, what’s next? Golf. Probably just some time to unwind.

“I’ll likely join the ProTours midweek for practice and then enjoy plenty of golf. It feels beneficial to me right now.

“I’ve been playing a lot of golf lately, and it’s helping my game, so I plan to continue.”
