Brown Mogotsi Arrested in Connection with Alleged Staged Assassination Attempt After Testifying at the Madlanga Commission

Political operative Brown Mogotsi was detained for allegedly masterminding an assassination attempt in Vosloorus and hindering justice. His arrest came shortly after he testified before the Madlanga Commission on Friday.

The South African Police Service confirmed that a multidisciplinary team executed the arrest following investigations related to the alleged incident.

Brown Mogotsi’s Arrest Tied to Alleged Vosloorus Assassination Plot

While officials did not disclose the suspect’s name, SAPS confirmed the execution of a J50 arrest warrant. The individual taken into custody is facing charges for obstructing justice.

Authorities noted that the case stems from the supposed staging of an assassination attempt in Vosloorus, with investigators believing it to be orchestrated and not a genuine attack.

SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed details of the investigation in a statement released on Friday.

Firearm Linked to Homicide and Attempted Homicide Cases

Mathe mentioned that initial investigations raised further concerns regarding the firearm supposedly used in the incident, with police suspecting it may be linked to several other violent crimes.

“Preliminary inquiries have suggested that the firearm involved in the crime has been associated with other serious and violent offenses, including murder and attempted murder,” Mathe stated.

Authorities have yet to release additional details about the connected cases as the investigations continue.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 18 May 2026. Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing.

SAPS has not ruled out the possibility of additional charges or further arrests related to the case.
