DAN BURN is expressing regret following Jordan Henderson’s unexpected accident.

After England’s 3-2 victory over Mexico in the World Cup Round of 16, Henderson, 36, attempted to replicate his teammate Burn’s impressive jump.

While the towering 6ft 7in defender Burn cleared the barriers effortlessly, Henderson lost his balance and suffered a wrist and forearm fracture, necessitating surgery and ending his tournament participation.

Burn reflected on the incident with talkSPORT: “I feel a bit responsible for making it seem so simple when I jumped.”

“I heard a noise right behind us, and you know something’s amiss with Hendo if he doesn’t get back up.”

“I’m genuinely saddened for him. Though he wasn’t on the pitch, his support has been invaluable. He’s had his operation, and I’m glad he’s back in Kansas after such a challenging few days.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he joins the warm-up with the squad on Saturday, even with a splint,” he added.

“His leadership is crucial; he constantly raises standards and motivates the team. His absence is certainly felt. Even when not on the pitch, having him around is essential for us.”

“If you ask the team, they all recognize his importance. I’m glad he’ll still be at the hotel and everything.”

Burn is looking forward to Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway, noting his strong record against Erling Haaland, who has scored only once in their encounters.
