A FOOTBALLER is fighting for his life after being discovered in a morgue mere hours after being declared deceased.

Fans of Katsina United were left stunned when Chinedu Ozor collapsed during a pre-season match against Niger Tornadoes.

Following an evaluation by medical professionals, the defender was initially considered dead.

Medical staff were astonished when Ozor moved his hand while he was lying in the morgue.

The Nigerian player was rapidly transferred to the intensive care unit at Katsina General Hospital, where he is currently on oxygen as doctors work diligently to stabilize his condition.

Heartland, a former club of Ozor, expressed their shock through a statement.

The statement said: “Reliable sources have confirmed that Chinedu Ozor has been relocated from the morgue to the hospital after reportedly showing signs of life.

“He is currently on oxygen while medical staff work to bring him back.”

This unforeseen update followed an earlier announcement from Katsina, which declared Ozor’s death.

The earlier statement read: “We are grieving the loss of our newly signed player Chinedu Ozor due to a medical emergency during today’s friendly match against Niger Tornadoes.

“Our thoughts, prayers, and strength are with his family and all loved ones. Rest in peace, Warrior.”

Katsina’s press officer Nasir Gide stated: “When we brought him to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead by the attending physician.

“We acquired a police report and returned him to Katsina General Hospital, where he was again pronounced dead.”

The Nigeria Premier Football League and Kano Pillars, previous clubs of Ozor, expressed their condolences after the erroneous announcement of his death.

Okey Kpalukwu, the general manager of Rivers United, also extended his sympathies as the news sent shockwaves through Nigerian football.

He remarked: “We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and to the management, players, staff, and fans of Katsina United.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Nigerian football community during this difficult time.”

Ozor had just completed his transfer to Katsina earlier this month as preparations for the upcoming season were underway.
