Financial Advisor and Prison Warden Among Individuals Arrested for Driving Under the Influence

Durban – Over the weekend, nearly twenty individuals, including a financial advisor, a prison warden, a technician, a truck driver, and a taxi driver, were apprehended for operating vehicles while under the influence.

On Sunday, 16 August 2026, KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma announced that at least 23 drivers had been arrested for inebriated driving.

“This weekend, a prison warden, a truck driver, and a taxi driver were discovered with blood alcohol levels eight times above the legal limit,” MEC Duma noted.

“A financial advisor, who boasted about his wealth and claimed to counsel partygoers celebrating the end of winter, was arrested for drunk driving in Newcastle last night.

“He was taken into custody alongside 22 other motorists. This adds to the 16 drivers who were detained on Friday in Newcastle.”

MEC Duma stated that since August of the previous year, #NenzaniEzweni Operations have led to the arrest of 7,742 drivers for alcohol-related offenses.

“We are committed to removing reckless drivers from the roads to prevent them from harming innocent road users,” MEC Duma emphasized.
