Police are offering a R100,000 reward for the capture of Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane, one of Calcutta’s most wanted fugitives

Mbombela (Nelspruit) – The Mpumalanga Police are offering a reward of R100 000 for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of double murder suspect Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane.

Known as “Calcutta’s most wanted,” Matsane is alleged to have been involved in the fatal shooting of two men at a tavern in Marite, Calcutta, on 15 May 2023.

Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo urged anyone who has information about the location of the suspect Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane to reach out to Detective Lieutenant Colonel Madala Ndashe at 076 244 8577 or Lieutenant Colonel Freddy Magagula at 082 780 6815.

“All information will be handled with confidentiality,” stated Colonel Masondo.

“The public is advised not to try to apprehend the suspect, as he is considered armed and extremely dangerous.”

The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, emphasized that the police are diligently working to combat crime in the Calcutta policing precinct, including areas like Mkhuhlu, where a number of murder incidents have been recently recorded.

Colonel Masondo mentioned that police have not ruled out the possibility of Matsane’s connection to other murders currently under investigation.
