GARY NEVILLE has urged Arsenal to go after Julian Alvarez to bolster Mikel Arteta’s title-challenging squad.
The Argentine striker has been on the Gunners’ radar throughout the ongoing transfer window.
However, negotiations for his transfer from Atletico Madrid have proven difficult, as Barcelona appears to be his preferred destination.
Neville suggested that Alvarez could be a transformative player in European competitions if Arsenal hopes to surpass last season’s performance against Paris Saint-Germain.
Neville made these comments while providing analysis on Sky Sports during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Coventry City, but noted there were still gaps in the squad.
He pointed out: “We believe that Alvarez has a preference for Barcelona, but if Arsenal could manage to bring him in, it would invigorate this club, providing them with a world-class striker to enhance their already strong defense and midfield.

“They wouldn’t just become Premier League champions; you would also begin to think they could take that additional leap to win the Champions League.
“He brings that creativity in front of goal to secure vital wins, especially on days when the team struggles. Does he possess that quality? I have my doubts.”
Neville’s admiration for Alvarez extends beyond just his scoring prowess; he believes his arrival could boost the performances of his colleagues.
He posited that the versatile forward could significantly enhance Martin Odegaard’s effectiveness in midfield.

Neville remarked: “While I hold Havertz and Gyokeres in high regard, if Arsenal had someone like Ian Wright making those clever runs, I believe Odegaard would shine even more brightly.
“I truly think that if Arsenal were to sign Alvarez, it would elevate him to another level, as he would integrate seamlessly into their playing style.”
