TMPD Arrests Motorcycle Thieves and Recovers Three Bikes and Parts on N1

Johannesburg – Authorities have apprehended two individuals after officers from the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) stopped their vehicle for inspection, revealing several motorcycles and parts that they were unable to account for.

The operation occurred on Saturday, 22 August 2026, as members of the TMPD Drug Unit conducted patrols in the Centurion vicinity.

They identified a vehicle exhibiting suspicious behavior and halted it at the off-ramp of the N1 and Botha Avenue.

During the search, TMPD discovered motorcycles and engines stored inside the van, which the suspects could not justify.

The TMPD subsequently arrested the two vehicle occupants, both of whom are from Uganda.

Follow-up investigations with pertinent authorities suggested that the suspects might be involved in a cross-border network that traffics stolen motorcycles into adjacent nations.

Items recovered include a black Toyota Voxy, a Honda, a Yamaha, and two Triumph motorcycle engines.

The estimated worth of the suspected stolen goods is around R880,000.

These motorcycles were reported stolen from areas such as Kempton Park, Alberton, and Lyttelton.

“The suspects were promptly charged with possession of three stolen motorcycles, possession of two stolen motorcycle engines, fraud, and possession of stolen property,” remarked the TMPD.
