NCC Announces Safety Recall for over 2,000 Ford Ranger Double Cab Bakkies

Johannesburg – The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has declared a “product safety recall” for over 2,000 Ford Ranger Double Cab trucks.

In a statement released to The Bulrushes on Sunday, 30 August 2026, the NCC indicated that the recall impacts 2,275 Ford Ranger Double Cab vehicles manufactured for the 2026-2027 production year.

“The vehicles included in the recall were sold nationwide from 22 May 2026 to 23 June 2026 through authorized Ford dealers and were also exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini,” the NCC reported.

“As per the supplier’s information, the side curtain airbags in these vehicles may interact with the B-Pillar trim during inflation, leading to improper deployment.”

“Should this happen, the B-Pillar ramp could separate from the vehicle, posing a risk of becoming a projectile during the airbag deployment.”

“The detachment of the B-Pillar ramp could heighten the likelihood of injury to passengers in the vehicle when the side curtain airbag activates.”

The NCC has urged owners of the affected vehicles to bring them to the nearest authorized Ford dealership for inspection and repair arrangements.

According to the NCC, all necessary repair work will be performed at no cost to the consumer.

“This recall concerns a crucial safety component affecting a substantial number of vehicles,” stated Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu.

“Owners or users of these vehicles should reach out to the supplier immediately.”

“The NCC will keep a close watch on this and other recalls to ensure that all affected vehicles in South Africa are addressed.”
