Competitors at the US Open have been given a fantastic surprise in the form of complimentary vouchers.
This esteemed tournament is not only a lucrative opportunity for athletes but becomes even more rewarding following a recent announcement of a significant increase in the event’s prize pool.
The total prize fund has surged by 20 percent compared to the previous year, and a remarkable 44 percent since the tournament’s 2024 edition.
This year, players will share a grand total of $109 million (£80 million) at the event, marking an increase from $90 million (£66 million) last year.
The prize pool includes an impressive $5.5 million (£4 million) awarded to the champions of the singles grand slam.
Even those who exit in the first round will walk away with $140,000 (£103,000) just for making it to the main draw, and the benefits continue from there.

Participants in the tournament received a considerable amount to enhance their experience and ensure a pleasant stay during their time at Flushing Meadows, New York.
Each competitor was awarded a $2,500 Uber Eats gift card, plus an extra $1,000 on an American Express card.
British qualifier Toby Samuel, who made it to the second round after defeating Tomas Machac, was particularly thrilled with the surprise.
He told Sky Sports, via the Express: “At first, I thought we only got a towel and a hat,”

A US Open social media video captured players expressing their joy over the vouchers.
One player noted, “Everyone’s talking about it,” while another called the gifts “clutch.”

US Tennis chief Craig Tiley must be pleased to see the positive reception of this initiative aimed at making the US Open as welcoming as possible for its participants.

These changes come in response to calls from significant stars like Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, who raised concerns that tennis players aren’t receiving an adequate portion of the financial rewards reflective of the attention they bring to the competitions.
