Southern Coast, Western Cape Officials Arrested in PKTT Raid

Cape Town – The South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has apprehended a mayor, a municipal manager, and a chief financial officer from a municipality located along the Southern Coast of the Western Cape.

While the specific municipality has not been disclosed, police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe reported that the arrests occurred earlier today, Thursday, 1 October 2026.

The three individuals were taken into custody following an investigation into suspected corruption associated with a security services contract.

“The arrests stemmed from information received by the police regarding claims that a businessman awarded a security services contract was being pressured for kickbacks to ensure the contract’s continuation,” stated Brigadier Mathe.

“It is alleged that the businessman had already remitted hundreds of thousands of rands out of fear that his security services contract could be revoked.”

Brigadier Mathe mentioned that all three accused are facing charges of corruption.

They are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, 5 October 2026.
