MKP Asks Former Spokesperson Ndhlela to Return Party Property and Access Card

Durban – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has officially removed former spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela from its ranks, under the leadership of former president Jacob Zuma.

After Ndhlela’s dismissal as spokesperson, the MKP revealed his membership suspension, termination as an MP, and directed him to return all party property within a week.

Ndhlela faced expulsion from his spokesperson position due to a contentious media release concerning the newly formed MK Institute, which he claimed would take full control over the party’s leadership frameworks.

The party’s leadership declared the statement “null and void,” claiming it was unconstitutional, which resulted in his immediate ousting.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, MKP National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko sent a letter to Ndhlela detailing the sanctions.

“This letter serves to formally inform you that President Jacob Zuma has decided to suspend your party membership effective immediately, pending an investigation,” Nhleko wrote.

“This decision is based on allegations of misconduct, creating divisions, and damaging the party’s image.”

The letter, which was examined by The Bulrushes, further stated: “Pending the outcome of the investigation, you are prohibited from representing the party in any official capacity and must refrain from accessing or handling any MKP social media accounts, bank accounts, or digital platforms; you are required to return all party property, including but not limited to documents, devices, membership card, passwords, and access credentials, to the Office of the Secretary-General within seven days of this notice.”

Ndhlela, who was quickly replaced as MKP spokesperson by former The Star newspaper editor Sifisumusa Mahlangu, has yet to make a public statement regarding his circumstances.
