FA Ponders Significant Stadium Rule Changes After Youth Cup Final Showdown Between Man Utd and Man City
The FA is contemplating a significant rule alteration due to the conflict between Manchester United and Manchester City over the venue for this year’s FA Youth Cup final.
Currently, the team drawn first has the right to host the final match.
However, City’s choice to hold last week’s crucial match at the 6,447-seat Joie Stadium instead of the Etihad outraged United fans and academy staff.
According to the Dailymail, City stated that construction work made it unfeasible to host the game at the Etihad.
United was said to have suggested holding the match at Old Trafford to provide the young players with the opportunity to play in front of a much larger audience.
Nevertheless, this proposal was declined, and the derby took place at City’s women’s ground, situated next to the 53,400-seat Etihad.

The final concluded with City winning 2-1, but the off-field issues quickly overshadowed the performance on the pitch.
The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust, along with the club’s fan forum members, strongly criticized the decision in a unified statement.
They deemed the choice of venue as “a disgrace” and highlighted that 67,000 fans attended United’s last Youth Cup final at Old Trafford.
The statement further asserted: “Permitting this significant match to take place in front of such a constrained number of supporters is a disservice to fans and robs these young players of a momentous occasion in their careers thus far.”

Currently, reports indicate that FA officials are reassessing the competition rules to prevent a recurrence of the controversy.
One suggestion under consideration is that if the designated host cannot hold the final at their primary stadium, the match may be moved to the opposing team’s ground.
United Under-18s manager Darren Fletcher shared his disappointment after the match.
The former United player critiqued both the venue choice and the overall coordination of the event.
Fletcher commented: “I feel let down by the FA regarding every aspect surrounding this game, including the venue.”
“There should be respect for the opposition. But when Man City holds sway over an FA Youth Cup, that respect is lost. This is an FA competition; it shouldn’t have played out this way.”
He also voiced concern over the pre-match presentation and atmosphere.
Fletcher mentioned: “I’ve never witnessed all individual coaches and every player acknowledged in such a manner. This isn’t customary in cup finals.”
“It felt like it was a Man City event leading up to the match.”
“However, the best team won; credit to them.”
